Lorain Theatre to
Celebrate 10th Anniversary
October 9 – 10 – 11

It’s been 10 years since the Lorain opened its doors October 9, 1999, to crowds who were anxious to see Runaway Bride on the big screen. This weekend we’ll be hosting a big anniversary bash featuring the movie All About Steve.

Some highlights of the anniversary weekend include:

• Free popcorn and soda with paid admission
• Free Trolli gummi bears while supplies last
• Door prizes from Disney, Fox, MGM, Paramount, Sony and Universal
• Grand prize: a gas grill from Wilson True Value

It’s going to be a great weekend. Please plan to attend.

Lawnmower Races

The Crazy Racers from Pukwana will be in Armour at 6 p.m. Saturday, September 26, for a night of lawnmower racing. The event will be held out at the 4-H Grounds north of the ball field complex. Admission is $6.

There are three classes of racers – Stock Class, Modified Class and Outlaw Class.

This is a fun event for the entire family. If you missed the races in Armour in June and July, be sure to attend. Refreshments, hot dogs and burgers will be sold. Come early for dinner and spend the evening!

The Lorain Theatre is being updated with new seats this week. As we approach our 10-year anniversary, we will finally have cup holders. This project has been fun and we are looking forward to it being completed in the next couple of days. For more information and pictures as the project progresses, please visit the Lorain blog.

Mark your calendars, the next All-School Reunion will be held July 1-4, 2011.

Plans are also being made to hold Armour’s 125th Anniversary celebration during the reunion.

The Crazy Racers from Pukwana will be in Armour at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 25, for a night of lawn mower racing. The event will be held out at the 4-H Grounds north of the ball field complex. There will be a dance following the races at the track. Admission for both events is $6.

There are three classes of racers – Stock Class, Modified Class and Outlaw Class.

This is a fun event for the entire family. If you missed the races in Armour in June, be sure to attend this weekend. Refreshments, hot dogs and burgers will be sold. Come early for dinner and spend the evening!

The races will also be held in Armour on Saturday, September 26.

The Armour Community Foundation has awarded a grant of $4,000 to the Armour Community Exchange. The money will be used for building improvements and to expand the showroom of the Exchange.

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has set up a Web site that has helpful information about the upcoming sale of Alltel to AT&T. Since most of us in the Armour area use Alltel as our cell phone carrier (there’s a tower just 3 miles north of town), I thought it would be helpful to provide a link to the site.

The Crazy Racers from Pukwana will be in Armour at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 6, for a night of lawn mower racing. The event will be held out at the 4-H Grounds.

There are three classes of racers – Stock Class, Modified Class and Outlaw Class. Armour’s Raymond Bigge is a racer and this year has moved up to the Outlaw Class. He has a brand new mower and competition is really fierce. Aaron Punt of Armour will be making his racing debut in the Stock Class.

This is a fun event for the entire family. If you missed the races in Armour last year, be sure to attend this weekend. Refreshments, hot dogs and burgers will be sold. Come early for dinner and spend the evening!

The races will also be held in Armour on Saturday, July 25, with a dance following and Saturday, September 26.

I’ve added a new page to the site. Please note the Alumni tab on the top menu bar.

For now, the page will be used to assist Armour students in their study of technology. Second through eighth graders are writing to Armour alumni to inquire about their use of technology. The alums are being asked to visit the Armour site and post comments about how they use technology in their daily lives. Please visit the page and watch for new comments as alumni receive letters and e-mails from students.
